4th of July

This year for the 4th, we went on an excursion with the Price Family up through Idaho to both the Crandall and Price family cabins, as well as Yellowstone Park. What a fantastic time we had together! We spotted some black bears in the park, which was a first for all of us (pictured below.)

Anyone who has ever been to Yellowstone knows that the wildlife will roam wherever they dang well feel like it. The entire lawn at one of the lodges was covered in mule deer one afternoon...

Crandall cabin! Will be torn down this fall and re-built in the coming years. This was the last visit to the cabin before construction begins. The cabin has been in the family for 2 generations, and so the new construction will ensure that it stays around for more generations to come :-)

Sleight Family Reunion-Burley, ID

We are able to attend the Sleight family reunion in Burley, ID at the end of June, and it was such a nice time. Pictured above is the headstone for my great-grandparents, who are buried there.

Several months ago when the reunion was announced, we were informed that my great-grandfather's (Orson Sleight) mission journals were going to be auctioned off at the reunion as well. When I left to serve a mission, my mom had actually sent me with portions of his journal, and they provided strength to me while I served. When I heard that the originals were going to be available, we immediately made plans to attend the reunion, for purpose of getting them.

When we arrived, the first thing that I asked was, "Where are the journals?!" Upon opening them and reading my grandfather's writing, I immediately felt that he really wanted me to have them. I can't say that I've had too many largely significant experiences in connecting to my ancestors like that, but this was one of those rare occasions. I'm very grateful that we went, and that I was able to get them, as well as connect more with that side of my family.

Part of the reunion activities included a riverboat ride on the Snake River. It was a perfect day for it!

Mom and Dad :-)

Reunion fundraising included donations for raffle drawings. Danny won my Aunt Moselle's contribution! We LOVED her gift!

BBQ with JIWC friends

We hosted a BBQ for Men's Health Week out on the reservation a few weeks ago for Men's Health Week. I debuted my BBQ skills for this little party, as I was in charge of doing the cooking... It went pretty darn well! Danny was also invited, so he took an extra long lunch just to drive out to the rez and eat one of my burgers :-)

My co-worker, Rozanna

Native kids are so dang cute...

I was proud to show my hubby off to everyone :-)

Not related to the BBQ... but this was funny enough to take a picture of...just some shinanagins that happened at the lake up by the office...
