This summer we also discovered the lovely little town of
Midway, which is located in Heber Valley.
Midway is a small European settlement, which was established primarily
by a group of Swiss immigrants in the mid-1800s at the behest of Brigham Young,
for protection from Indian hostilities.
The area is absolutely beautiful. I don't have nearly enough
pictures at this point to provide even a small sense of its charm. The
architecture of the town is authentically European, as much of the original
buildings remain standing. There has, of course been some renovations to these
structures through the years, however the integrity of each building has been
preserved. Pictured here is the Glockenspiel (unfortunately, we still haven't
been able to get a glimpse of the dancing figures which appear periodically
throughout the day.) This is part of the Town Hall.
We've frequented this little town a couple times this year.
We attended the annual Swiss Days event, which is a huge festival of good food,
dancing, music and local vendors. We also found ourselves in Midway this fall
for our annual couples' pictures, as we got a really good deal from a
photographer who was promoting his business at Swiss Days (a not-so-legal print
of our annual professional photo is shown below.)
This place is a wonderful weekend getaway. Some of the
area's most hidden gems in terms of high-class restaurants and bed and
breakfasts can be found in this little mountain nook. We LOVE it. We decided to
have a third marriage anniversary celebration here and splurged at the Blue
Boar Inn's restaurant one evening. It was divine! We'd highly recommend this
place to any couple looking to get away for the weekend.
