Summer in the Basin really does bring good times. This year
we embraced the redneck culture to the max by heading to the Demolition Derby.
What a rockin' good time that was! Monster trucks, hicks driving around in juiced
up cars in a rodeo arena, kids chasing chickens around at half-time, ATV
races, nachos, and way too many cowboy hats around made this event the best
thing we did in Vernal this summer. This will undoubtedly become an annual
tradition... and we'd love to invite the nephews along some year if they want
to come visit :-) It was so much fun.
Also pictured is the "Scales and Tails" show.
Because the Basin has earned the infamous title of "Dinosaur Land"
due to the nearby prehistoric monuments, they hold a snakes and lizard show at
the fair each year. The show itself was mostly geared towards a children's
audience, but we found the critters to be really cool and fascinating. They had
everything from pythons to boa constrictors, to small lizards to adult
crocodiles to large land and sea turtles. It was awesome!
Lastly, there is a Commemorative Air Force Wing in Heber City, and
this year they had planes and air rides available at our fair as well. Danny
loves any and all excuses to go look at airplanes, so that was also a highlight
of our Uintah County Fair experience :-)
We just thought the way this kid was carrying around the chicken was hilarious. Poor bird... |
